Trump Expands Lead in Georgia as Poll Shows Biden Struggles with Young People

Former President Donald Trump has expanded his lead over President Joe Biden in Georgia, according to a new CNN-SRSS poll, which suggests the current president is struggling with voters in key demographics.

The poll showed Trump winning with 49 percent of the vote, while just 44 percent of voters said they would vote for Biden. The polling was conducted between November 30 and December 7, and pollsters reported a margin of error of plus or minus 3.3 percent.

Trump’s support was partially fueled by “voters who say they did not cast a ballot in 2020,” according to CNN, with the former president reporting a 26-point lead among those who sat out the last presidential election. The outlet also reported that voters who “say they broke for Biden over Trump” now “tilt in Trump’s favor for 2024,” with the current president “holding on to fewer of his 2020 backers than does Trump.”

Pollsters also found that just 39 percent of Georgia voters approve of Biden’s job performance, and 54 percent of respondents said Biden’s policies “have worsened economic conditions in the country.”

Worse for Biden, the pollsters found that young voters are breaking for Trump, with 50 percent of Georgia voters younger than 45 indicating they will vote Trump over Biden. Only 9 percent of voters in the same age range told pollsters Biden is “exactly what they’d like to see in a president in terms of policy positions,” the outlet reported.

The CNN-SRSS poll also found Biden has the support of just 78 percent of younger Democrats in Georgia, even as his support among Democrats over age 45 remains at 90 percent.

Pollsters found Georgians statistically tied regarding opinions on the Fulton County case against Trump and those who helped him contest the 2020 election, finding that 52 percent of Georgia voters approve of the prosecution while 48 percent oppose it. The pollsters also reported that 47 percent of respondents said the charges “should disqualify Trump from the presidency” if they are proven true in court.

Republican respondents were less conflicted, with the outlet reporting the majority of likely GOP voters said Trump “is the candidate with the best shot of winning their state next November,” and nearly all of Trump’s supporters reported “considering him the most electable.”

Attorneys for Harrison Floyd, the former director of Black Voices for Trump who is among the defendants in the Georgia criminal election case against Trump, have indicated they intend to prove in court that the 2020 election results were false in Georgia, which they say will prove their client’s innocence.

Biden was determined to be the winner of the 2020 election in Georgia by just 12,000 votes, and a lawsuit disputing Biden’s victory in the state remains ongoing.

In Michigan, where the pollsters also surveyed voters, they reported similar results, but Trump’s lead over Biden was even more impressive. They found Trump is supported by 50 percent of respondents, compared to the 40 percent who supported Biden.

The latest polling follows an Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll that showed Trump ahead by two percentage points, and highlighted Biden’s struggles to court independent voters.
